Merge PDF files
Add two or more PDF files, arrange them in the order you want, and merge them into one file downloaded straight from your browser.
Add PDF files
Choose at least two files. You can select several at once, and each file must be a PDF the browser recognises.
Good to know
- Two files minimum; the tool enforces no maximum size or file count.
- Files are merged in list order, and you can change the order before merging.
- Processing happens in your browser, then a private copy of the merged output is stored.
- Each page’s content is copied without re-compression, and the result is downloaded as merged.pdf.
- After a successful merge, the number of merged files is written to the activity log.
How merging works
- 01Add files
Choose two or more files from your device; the tool checks that each one is a PDF.
- 02Set the order
Move files up and down until the page order in the result matches what you need.
- 03Merge and download
One file is built, downloaded automatically as merged.pdf, and the list is cleared.
What happens during the merge?
pdf-lib reads each file in your browser and copies its pages in the displayed order without re-compressing page content. When ready, the result downloads as merged.pdf and one private, non-public copy of that output is stored.
Before sending the file
- Open the result and check the page order and page count.
- Review scanned pages; their quality comes from the original and the tool does not reprocess it.
- Keep the original files until you have checked the result.
- Very large files can exhaust browser memory and fail; try merging them in smaller batches.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
Original files are read and merged in your browser, then one private copy of the merged output is stored.
Is there a size limit?
The tool enforces no size or file-count limit. The minimum is two files, but very large files can slow the browser down or fail depending on available memory.
Can I merge password-protected files?
Usually not; decrypting protected files can fail and show an error. Remove the protection first, then try again.
Does page quality change?
Page content is not re-compressed; it is copied as-is into the new document, so quality stays the same as in the original files.
What is the output file name?
The result is downloaded as merged.pdf. Rename it on your device after downloading if you need to.
Can I reorder pages inside a file?
No; the available ordering is the order of the files. Page order inside each file stays unchanged.
