1 m = 100 cm
Standard exact factors are used: one inch is 2.54 cm and one pound is 0.45359237 kg. Data units use base 1024 (1 KB = 1024 bytes), volume units are US liquid measures (1 gallon = 3.785 L), and temperatures use the standard formulas with values below absolute zero rejected.

How to convert a unit
- 01Choose a category
Pick the type of measurement: length, weight, temperature, area, volume, speed, data size or time.
- 02Enter the value and units
Type the numeric value, then choose the source unit and target unit from the two selects.
- 03Read or copy the result
The result appears live as you type; you can also swap units, copy the output or reset the form.
How the conversion works
Each category has one base unit: the meter for length, the kilogram for weight, the square meter for area, the liter for volume, the meter per second for speed, the byte for data size and the second for time. The value is first multiplied by the source unit factor to reach the base unit, then divided by the target unit factor, which makes any conversion within the same category direct and precise.
Temperature formulas
Temperature is always converted through Celsius as the intermediate unit, then the matching formula is applied for the target unit. The tool rejects any value that would fall below absolute zero (−273.15 °C) because it is not physically possible.
- °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
- °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
- K = °C + 273.15
- °C = K − 273.15
Data size and unit boundaries
The tool uses base 1024 for byte multiples because that is the convention in operating systems and device memory (1 KB = 1024 bytes, 1 MB = 1024 KB). Storage vendors, however, rate capacity in multiples of 1000, which is why a disk shows slightly less capacity than the label. Volume units here are US liquid measures: one cup is 236.588 ml, one pint is 473.176 ml, one gallon is 3.785 L and one fluid ounce is 29.574 ml.
Frequently asked questions
Are the conversion results accurate?
Yes. The tool uses exact standard factors such as 2.54 cm per inch and 0.45359237 kg per pound, and shows at most six decimal places with safe rounding.
Why does a file size differ between systems?
Some systems and programs use base 1024 for multiples while others use base 1000. This tool follows the base-1024 convention common in operating systems, which explains the visible size difference.
Can I convert Fahrenheit to Kelvin directly?
Yes. The value is converted to Celsius first and then to the target unit, and all formulas used are listed in the article above.
What does the swap button do?
It reverses the source and target units and refills the input with the previous result, so the converted quantity stays equivalent without retyping it.
Are the values I enter sent to a server?
No. Every conversion runs in your browser instantly, and values are never stored or sent anywhere.
