What happens to your file?
Pages are read and their thumbnails are rendered in your browser, then pdf-lib rebuilds a new document by copying the pages in the order you chose and applying your rotations. Pages are copied as-is with no re-compression or re-rendering, so page content and quality stay the same as the original. Your file is not uploaded to any server, and no copy of it or of the result is stored.
Digital signatures
Re-saving the file invalidates any digital signature, because verification depends on the original file bytes staying unchanged. The signature stays visible as part of the page, but it is no longer valid for verification after export — so use the tool on unsigned copies, or sign after you finish organizing.
Protected files
The tool does not decrypt password-protected files; it shows a clear error and stops. Open the file with its password and save an unprotected copy first, then try organizing again.
Before exporting
- Check the thumbnail order before exporting; the result follows exactly what you see on screen.
- Review the direction of rotated pages, since rotation is applied to the page in the exported file.
- Very large or many-page files can exhaust browser memory; work in batches if rendering struggles.
- Open the result and check the first and last pages before sending it or deleting the original.
Frequently asked questions
Do digital signatures stay valid after export?
No. Re-saving the file invalidates the digital signature because the file bytes change, even if page content stays the same. The signature remains visible on the page but is no longer valid for verification.
Can I organize a password-protected PDF?
